RPLI was introduced in 1995 following the Malhotra Committee recommendations specifically to provide low-cost life insurance cover to residents of rural areas across India. Any Indian citizen residing in rural jurisdictions aged between 19 and 55 years is eligible to purchase an RPLI policy with Sum Assured ranging from ₹10,000 up to ₹10,00,000.
In PLI, an official monthly rebate of ₹1.00 per ₹20,000 of Sum Assured is automatically deducted from premiums for all policies with Sum Assured of ₹1,00,000 and above. In RPLI, the rebate of ₹1.00 per ₹20,000 SA is granted for policies with Sum Assured of ₹25,000 and above. PostalHub calculates this exact rebate in real-time.
No! Effective 22 September 2025, the GST Council and Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) announced a complete waiver (0% GST / NIL rate) on term and individual life insurance premiums, including all Postal Life Insurance and Rural Postal Life Insurance plans. No GST is added to the premium quotes.
Under India Post rules, policyholders paying premiums in advance receive official rebates: 1% discount for paying 6 months in advance (Half-Yearly mode), and 2% discount for paying 12 months in advance (Annual mode). Both discounts are pre-calculated and shown side-by-side in our premium breakdown tables.
